Movie Review – DON

DON ko pakadna mushkil nahi namumkin hai ;) (Catching DON is not tough but impossible)

Don

But then after seeing the movie… “DON (movie) ko dekhna mushkil nahi namumkin hai” (Watching/Standing DON movie is not tough but impossible)

Well, the story is very different from the original one. Some sequences are same but expect the unexpected in the movie :)

It is a mixture of Swordfish and Face Off.

It can be a good timepass, please watch only if you are a SRK fan, else no point in watching the movie…coz the movie is only shot for SRK ;) I can still remember Duplicate (movie) where SRK plays a double action role and how the film bombed :)

DON (DON’t Watch it…if you’re not a SRK fan) :D

Well I had no other choice – can’t endure my sisters perstering, so had to take them to this movie :( Tried to sleep but Priyanka and Isha woke me from time to time :D

one night @ the call center – Book Review

  • Book Name – One night @ the Call Center
  • Author – Chetan Bhagat
  • Pages – 289
  • Publishers – Rupa & Co
  • Price (India): Paperback Rs 95 (Indiatimes Shopping)

Well folks, one more book of Chetan Bhagat to tangle you with call center environment – One Night @ the Call Center (ON@CC) :) I do not work in a Call Center, though heard a lot about the happenings. So, it was fun to know what call center guys experience :) I read this book in just three hours, did not take a break…non-stop reading ;)

ON@CC

The book is too good, like his previous book (Five Point Someone), written in a very simple english and in first-person narration.

Coming to the characters, there are six main characters (all in the same team) managed by a boss. Shyam the main character (storyteller :P ), Priyanka (his ex-girlfriend), Varun (speedracer), Esha (wannabe model), Radhika (married and good d-i-l), Miltary Uncle (elder) and finally Mr. Bakshi (Da Boss).

The interesting part in the story is that it captures all the events happening in one single night :)

ON@CC-1
Everybody have problems in life, but we need to know how to tackle/get rid of them asap…this book will help you to do that…believe me.

On the whole the book is good, only the GOD part was a bit sulky. But still was interesting :) .

Some info:

  • I did not know that people take breaks and go to the nearby pubs to get a quick drink (of course, along with the gals)
  • Picking up people is a very tough job and now I know why all Qualis drivers always honk at night in front of my apartment :P
  • Now I can understand why all Bosses do not CC you on the mail that they send to the client/customer :(

Rohan Sippy has got the rights for producing a movie based on this book :)

This is a very nice cartoon, googled for it…

ON@CC - Cartoon
And Chetan Bhagat is busy writing screenplay for the movie based on Five Point Someone, which is coming in 2007 :P

Movie Review – Vattaram, Varalaaru and Vallavan

Well, nothing much to say about these movies.

Vattaram was better in all the V’s (Vattaram, Varalaaru and Vallavan).

Vattaram
Arya as usual with his casual acting, scored good in this movie. Saran has directed the movie very well. Heroines are wasted in Saran’s movie, as usual. On the whole, this movie can be watched once, atleast for Saran’s direction.

Varalaaru (GODFATHER), Ajith in three characters, GOD only must save the audience. Pathetic movie, no connection with the beginning and end. K.S. Ravikumar can’t afford to direct such a movie :( It just adds to his list of rare flops. Can’t imagine Ajith dancing Bharathanatyam in the movie. Asin as usual glam doll role, not used much in the movie.

Varalaaru
This is the only movie, where Ajith has acted as REAL Ajith :) I guess people who have seen the movie, will understand what I am saying :)

The title – Godfather has no significance with the movie. Thank god they changed the name to Varalaaru. Guys this movie is not worth watching in the theatre, just wait till you get the other source :P

Vallavan is pathetic as usual. Simbu tries to do something different this time but fails miserably. Reema sen has acted good among the heroines, Nayans as usual shedding lotsa tears. I still cant understand why Sandhya is there in the movie. Wasted by Simbu. Vallavan producers are now in a position to take a Pallavan (local bus transport in Chennai) :)

Vallavan

Husband of Chicken???

I did an introductory course in French, when I was in Bangalore. The name of our teacher was Collibaaly Moussa :) He is from Ivory Coast. He requested us to call him as Mr.Cool, coz he somehow found that we would make fun of his name :)

So during one of his class, he was teaching us the names of animals in French. He said the equivalent of chicken but somehow he forgot how we call the male counterpart of chicken in English.

So he asked the class, “What is the name for the husband of chicken?”. The class broke out in laughter for almost five minutes. I was on big time ROFL.

Then we settled and told him it is called as Rooster :) But till the end of the class we were laughing still thinking about Husband of Chicken…

BTW, Chicken is called as Le Poulet in French and Rooster is called as Un Coq in French.

Check this link Animal Names for more information :)

The Innocent Man – Book Review

  • Book Name – The Innocent Man: Murder and Injustice in a Small Town
  • Author – John Grisham
  • Pages – 368
  • Publishers – Arrow Books
  • Price (India): 188 INR

A first-time attempt for John Grisham on Non-fictions. This is the first time, he is experimenting his non-fiction side, which came out very well. This is a real life story of an innocent man in a small town, Ada.

The Innocent Man
A brief overview of the story – an innocent man Ron Willamson (fondly called as Ronnie) was committed to a crime, which he did not perform and charged with death penalty. The case stretches to 20 years and finally did he get convicted or not…well you need to read the book to know this :)

But some news were really shocking, especially how innocent people were made as scapegoats by crooked policemen, just to save themselves.

When the case was tried first, the only test available was hair-matching test, which was not reliable. Ron got charged based on the hair test and after 20 years, with advancements in technology, the DNA test came alive and Ron got his hair and saliva tested for the same.

This shows how technology has helped a lot for the mankind.

Ron and John Grisham, both lived in the same town. John wanted to write this novel for a long time (since 2000) and spend almost six years collecting the materials from different sources. Well the wait was worth every penny :)

Do read his short interview here.

It is a very good book to read, if you want to realize how many innocent victims are easily convicted and still there are lotsa people who are innocent and serving death row in different parts of the country.

Some of the incidents, matches exactly with what happens in India too. Policeman charging innocent people, just to close the case, coz of pressure/orders from so called HIGH LEVEL.

But then how many innocent people can afford for a lawyer and DNA tests? How many of them take it for granted as a fate and succumb to it? How many of them know that such a test exist? Well, there are lotsa questions, that are left unanswered :(
