India’s Stint at ICC Champions Trophy

India was the last hope as an Asian country to enter the Semi’s. But as usual the Aussies dumped India.

Dravid
[This is not how we want to see Dravid in all his future matches right? ]

South Africa getting into the Semis by beating Pakistan was a huge surprise. It was the day of the Underdogs. But though India being an underdog and playing in home ground could not make advantage of it.

The pitch was a clear BATTING PITCH and what India needed was RUNS. The last 10 overs are the crucial ones and India were able to get only 67 runs. Dhoni was supposed to fire. It was a HIT or GET OUT situation. Dhoni instead of hitting 4’s and 6’s, takes 1’s and 2’s and rotates strike??? Dude, you are at the end of match and now your are rotating your strike? Dhoni is most worried about his Strike Rate than taking runs for India.

If we check the run rate, India started their first over with 5 runs and only in 7th over, the run rate was 5.14 and from there till the end of 50 overs, the run rate never crossed 5.

But with Aussies, they started their first over with 3 runs and starting from the second over till the end of the match, their run rate never dropped below 5, their least run rate was 5.34. India was unable to control Aussies run rate.

Oh, and we need to talk about the Extras too, 26 extras is a low-score chasing match. Fantastic…

If only India had beaten West Indies, on the basis of Run Rate, India could have easily entered the semi’s. There are lotsa such if’s that can be discussed about.

Is this the team with which we are going to play the World Cup next year? We need more youngsters in the team and get rid of all oldies.

Jaan-E-Mann Movie Review

I am just wondering how long these bollywood guys gonna play with these permutations and combinations (of characters).

I am not sure when this thing started but was very avid with Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna. Two pairs, living happily and suddenly they (ex)change their partners and God only knows what happens at the end.

On similar lines, we have this new movie Jan-E-Mann. Salman and Preity living happily together and suddenly they separate. There comes Akshay Kumar and he falls in love with Preity and these two get engaged. By now, you should have guessed the climax.

Janemann wp

It is all damn permutation-combination, you start with somebody, shuffle the characters (pairs) and finally either you leave them like that or you shuffle it back to get to the original pairs.

When are these guys gonna take some innovative and interesting movie? No more family movies please, we have enough of them for the people to watch and get confused :) .

But then the comedy track in the movie is good though it has got lotsa lapses (like Akshay has seen Preity and Salman in college but does not remember when he sees him after few years) and does not know that Salman is the x-hubby of Preity and lots more.

Reviews say that this movie is BETTER than DON (but DON is doing better in terms of $$$$$). I am not sure how true is this. Upto you guys, if you need to watch JANEMANN – in the likes of SUPERMAN, BATMAN, HEMAN :P

Sabarimala row…

Recently I found this excerpt from an article,  “However, not all temples are a no-no for women. An example that tosses feminists’ claims out of the window on the auspicious day of Pongal, it’s the men who are kept out from the famous Attukal temple in Thiruvanathapuram, for the festival is exclusively for women.” – http://www.ibnlive.com/news/kerala-temple-bars-men-on-pongal/14297-3.html

I  guess in guruvayur only hindus are allowed and popular singer Yesudas was not allowed to enter the temple coz he is a christian.
Recent updates about the Sabarimal issue – http://www.ndtv.com/morenews/showmorestory.asp?id=91760&frmsrch=1&txtsrch=sabarimala

There are restrictions everywhere and ppl are strictly adhering to it…and even I was taken aback by this situation, I’ve been to Sabarimala for the past 10 years…

If something is followed for centuries together why do we need to change it….does it prove that “change is the only constant thing”???..

Just to quote from an article – “To call for Sabarimala to be open for women is like saying that women should be allowed to enter monasteries, or men should be allowed inside nunneries. It’s like saying that the orders of the Jesuits and the Benedictines should admit women, or that the Loreto order of nuns should admit men.” – http://www.freeindiamedia.com/women/10_july1_06.html

Experience@Rome

If you are planning to go in a Metro in Rome, Italy, this info will be very useful for you :)

People in Rome are least bothered about the traffic signals, its dirty all over (mainly coz of the tourists) but still a nice place to visit.

Transport is too good, you just need to get a full day pass for 4 euros and you can travel the whole day in a bus or tram or metro – unlimited :)

I was there for two days, on Saturday, visited most of the places in Rome and on Sunday spent the whole day at Vatican. Pope was not lucky enough to see me :D (he had gone to a diff place, usually he stays in Rome on Sundays, but that day he was very unlucky :P ).

On our way back from Vatican, we were rushing to get to the main station (TERMINI) and thats when the horrifying incident happened.

Rome Metro Map

Guys from NCR, if you had noticed, the Metros in Delhi are similar to that in Rome, line A and line B and both meet in CP. I guess MCD took the idea from Rome ;)

We bought our tickets and was waiting for the train. I took my purse out from my shoulder bag, bought the tickets and kept it inside my pant pocket  (huge blunder).

The station was too crowded, I had a shoulder bag and a cover on my left hand. Finally, the train arrived (trains are very frequent, one train every 2-3 minutes) and when I was about to enter the train, suddenly three gals (two of the age 9-11 and one 5-7) entered before me and were just standing near the door, blocking my entry.

I was holding the bar (inside the train, to avoid falling) and on the other hand, was having my cover. I tried entering inside and these gals were literally pushing me out. I was afraid that the doors might close coz all doors were automatic doors. (check the pic)

Rome Metro Train
Two big gals were blocking me and the small gal was standing in between them. Suddenly all three got out of the train and I happily entered. I became suspicious and found that my purse was missing.

So, I had to get down at the next station and took the othe train and came back to the same station and reported the incident to a cop. That cop took me to a place (inspection room kinda place) and they had my purse with all items spreaded. I identified my purse and took it back, only to find that there were no money in that.

These gals cleverly took the money and threw the purse on the platform and ran away. Was a bit happy that atleast I got my purse back, with all my cards :) .

I lost 150 euros (9000 INR) , which spoiled my whole plans (was planning to go to Paris the next week) and thankfully I had bought the train tickets (from Main Station to Bologna, Italy) before hand. So we left back to Bologna (thats the place, where we were staying) finally.

I can never forget the incident, the funny thing was that I knew about these incidents and was very careful for those two days always checking my purse. Just the last moment, when we were in a hurry, this incident took place.

This serves as a good example how to plan things and give enough time to take care of your things :)

First Sem at IIMLNC

Finally, completed my first semester (from July 6th to Oct 7th) at IIM Lucknow Noida Campus (IIMLNC)….
There were five subjects in the first sem, each sem is only for three months :(

In the first half of the sem, we had these subjects:

  • Management Accounting – 1 (MANAC-1) – Credit 1.0
  • Operations Management – 1 (OM-1) – Credit – 0.5
  • Behaviour in Organizations (BIO) – Credit -1.0
  • Managerial Economics – 1 (ME) – Credit 1.0

MANAC-1 (I luv calling it as MAN(I)AC, oops there is also MANAC-2 :D ) was the top priority in all these four subjects coz the professor was really tough. He was trying to impose the same IIM standards, similar to IIML-PGP (regular) programme students. But it was FUN (Fantastic Unimaginable Note-worthy) altogether.

OM (We chant Ohm Ohm in his class, just to avoid sleeping) was equally tough because we were forced to hit the books hard (mug up) to score marks. Well, doing it again after four years was really tough, but somehow managed to. Professor used to start reading the text from the screen as soon as he turns on the projector :)

BIO (Thank GOD it was not Biology, we were shocked when we first saw the abbr :) ) was the don’t-ever-miss class for me because it was very interesting. We can learn a lot about how a self, group or an organization must exist to excel. There were lotsa real-life examples from our elite class :)

ME (I like to call it as MEow) was a very cool subject, the professor was a cool guy, so we didnt get bowled over by demands, supplies, isocosts, isoquants, monopoly, oligopoly and all those zillions of graphs.

By August mid, we had our Mid-Term exam and was very happy that it got ended and that all these portions will not be asked for the End-Term exam. So I thought, will pick up in the End exam.

Oh, BTW, I had a 100% attendance for all the classes (first time after I entered college (since UG)) :D
In the second half of the sem, we had these subjects (rest of the portions):

  • MANAC-1
  • BIO
  • ME-1
  • Law Aspects in Management (LAM) (new subject) – Credit 0.5

I attended the first week and thats when the disaster stuck me. I met with a bike accident and was forced to go to Chennai for a surgery. I had just attended the first week class and could not attend the rest of the sem.

Finally, came back in October for the End exams and gave them all. Just happy that I am able to atleast write the exam, after missing the classes for almost a month.

I missed all those assignments, presentations, etc (mainly the internals) and especially all the fun, but I hope will compensate it with the end exam ;) Hope so…

Second sem starts today, 12 October, 2006 :) check out the updates in mid of Jan ;)
